What are Pests?
Generally speaking, pests are animals, birds or insects that contaminate food either directly or indirectly. They include: rodents, for example, rats and mice; insects, for example, flies, cockroaches, beetles, ants, wasps, bees, bedbugs, fleas and various insects that can be found in stored products; birds, for example, pigeons, crows, seagulls, starlings and sparrows.

If rats are present in the loft area it is normally a sign of entry through a broken drain.
How long will it take to eradicate a rat infestation?
All treatments will have a minimum of four visits or until the treatment is finished at no extra cost. Treatment can take between 14 - 30 days.
Can you get rid of mice?
Using various traps, baits and sealing entry points, along with good hygiene techniques, it is possible to solve the problem of mice.

Can I become ill from mice?
Yes you can get food poisoning due to their incontinent behaviour. All surface areas should be sterilised and food such as fruit and vegetables washed before eating. Try and put other food in containers if possible.

Back to topCan you remove a wasps' nest?
Yes. Ashman Pest Control Services can remove the nest as long as it is accessible. If not it will be treated in situ. Most work can be carried out within 24 hours with a written treatment report.
Will I get stung if I have a wasps' nest?
Normally, if you leave the nest alone you will be okay.
What should I do with the wasps' nest?
Never block the entry point until treatment is complete as this can cause additional problems.
What are the signs of a flea problem?
You will probably see your pet constantly scratching. Bites on you or family members – flea bites can produce an allergic reaction. Bites can be intensely itchy and symptoms include a small red spot approximately 5mm in diameter. Flea bites can cause skin irritation on sensitive skin.
How can I get rid of fleas?
Thorough cleaning and vacuuming with a crack and crevice nozzle will help remove eggs and larvae. This should be followed up with the removal of the waste in to an outside bin to prevent further infestations. Professional treatment with a residual insecticide and veterinary treatment for your pet are further options that should be seriously considered.
How did I get fleas?
Fleas can be carried into the home on your pet or a person. Cat and bird fleas are the most common.
What do fleas eat?
Larvae feed on debris and adult flea droppings. Adult fleas feed on vertebrae blood.
How have I got bedbugs?
Due to people travelling it is easy to pick up bedbugs on luggage or at hotels, hostels etc.
How do I get rid of bedbugs?
Bedbug control is best carried out by treating all adjoining rooms and not just the one you think is infected as bedbugs will migrate to other areas. A residual spray or dust insecticide should be used.
Can you get rid of my ants?
Yes. At Ashman Pest Control Services we use either a pressurised powder or a wet formulation insecticide. A treatment report is always provided along with a guarantee for the first summer period after treatment. Free revisits are promised if they return.
Are ants a health hazard?
Foraging ants are a nuisance and not normally a health risk.
Can you get rid me of cockroaches?
Yes. Ashman Pest Control Services can control cockroaches but it is not a quick fix. Revisits will have to be carried out mainly due to the nymphs reaching maturity. A one off treatment will not be sufficient.
What do I need to do to help the control of cockroaches?
You will need to have a thorough deep clean of your property. Wash food and grease off walls and surfaces etc. Keep food areas clean. Loose cracked tiles and typical areas of shelter for the cockroaches need to be repaired and sealed.
Will I have to pay for every visit for the treatment of cockroaches?
No. The price will be for the full treatment including all revisits. You will receive a treatment report after every visit explaining the work carried out and when the technician needs to return.

Back to topCan you release Grey Squirrels somewhere else?
No. They must be dispatched of humanely. Grey Squirrels are not an indigenous species of the British Isles and are taking over the smaller Red Squirrel territory.
Are Grey Squirrels hard to catch?
Generally, they are a very inquisitive species, so are easier to catch than rats, as they are not neophobic (fear of new objects).
How have Grey Squirrels got into my loft?
Most of the time they will have entered through a weak point in the roof under a loose tile or the fascia.
How do I get pigeons out of my loft?
Normally shooting and proofing are the methods used to eradicate pigeons from lofts and buildings. Missing tiles may also need to be repaired.
Can pigeons cause damage?
Yes. Their droppings are corrosive and can damage materials, erode surfaces of stonework and pipes and gutters can become blocked. This can be costly to repair.
How do I stop pigeons roosting on ledges?
Normally proofing using bird point will solve this problem. Trying to resist food availability also helps to stop pigeons roosting on ledges.
